“From Your Heart to Theirs”

     This advanced course goes beyond the basics of public speaking and addresses the foundations necessary for preparing an engaging sermon.

Who Should Take This Course?

     Anyone who would like an initial advanced course in preaching should take this course.

     Any Certified District Lay Speaker may take this course to fulfill the requirement to take at least one advanced course each three years to maintain certification.

     Any lay speaker who has taken the Lay Speaking Basic course  and is interested in pursuing District Certification (primarily to be able to preach in district churches outside the local church) may take this course to fulfill the advanced course requirement toward certification.  If you have questions, please contact the Chairman of the District Lay Speaking Committee. Instructor

     The course will be taught by Rev. Lee Carlson. 

Pastor Lee is completing his 12th year at UMC Webster.  He graduated from Geneva College in 1988 where he studied business and professional piloting and Asbury Theological Seminary in 1992 with a Master of Divinity degree.

     He became an Elder in the United Methodist Church in June, 1995.  He has taught seminars on the District and Conference level, was chairperson of the Camps, Conferences, and Retreat Ministry Team, and has served on three women’s Walk to Emmaus Teams and a girl’s Chrysalis Team. He currently serves on the Board of Ordained Ministry, is chairman of the New Faith Communities Team and serves on two of the Upper New York Conference transitional teams.

     He is married to Michele (19 years), and they have two great kids, Benjamin (Ben) age 15 and Samantha (Sam) age 12.  In his spare time he enjoys spending time at their newly acquired lake home, boating with the kids, and relaxing around a nice campfire.  He also enjoys basketball, volleyball, gardening, and riding his ATV.  But most of all he loves God and loves people!
