LOAN, SCHOLARSHIP, AND

GRANT INFORMATION 2010

NOTICE:  New Earlier Deadlines

  • Western New York Conference Undergraduate Education Grants

Grants are available to any member of a United Methodist Church in the WNY Conference attending, or admitted to an accredited college or university.  Because grant amounts are determined on the basis of funds available to all applicants that submit a completed application by the deadline, no applications will be accepted after the deadline. Please note the complete application package must be returned to:  WNY Conference, Undergraduate Education Grant, 131 John Muir Drive, Buffalo, NY, 14228, NO LATER THAN: April 1st.   Instructions,   Undergraduate Grant Application

 

  • The United Methodist Church Conference Merit Award Program

One award is designated for an undergraduate student attending a United Methodist related college or university by the WNY Conference Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry. 

Please Note:

1.      An applicant must be nominated by a local church.

2.      Only one student may be nominated annually by each church.

3.      The complete application package must be sent to:

Awards are also available to students attending any accredited college, university or seminary in the USA by the WNY Conference Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry.  Students must have been a member of a WNY United Methodist Church for at least one year prior to application.  Please use the Merit Award Application materials and instructions above.

 

  • The United Methodist Foundation Dollars for Scholars Local Church Matching Scholarship Program

This is a national, church wide program of The United Methodist Foundation for Christian Higher Education.  This program will provide a $1000 matching scholarship for a member of your congregation enrolled or enrolling in a United Methodist college, university, or seminary who is nominated and supported by a $1000 grant from the local church.  For information and application materials:  http://www.umhef.org/

  •   United Methodist Communications Grants and Scholarships

Grants are available to United Methodist undergraduate and graduate students entering the field of religion journalism/mass communications.  Information and applications are available from United Methodist Communications, PO Box 320, Nashville, TN, 37202-0320. GENERAL BOARD OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND MINISTRY LOANS AND SCHOLARSHIPS:

 

PLEASE NOTE: Due to an overwhelming increase in applications received with the online application in 2009, the GBHEM Scholarship deadlines AND requirements will change in 2010.

  • Deadlines will be earlier and will change for 2010.
  • Committees will consider applications on a first come, first serve basis of COMPLETE applications. This means the online application, official transcript (grades through December 2009), letters of reference, essay, and any other remaining required items detailed on the NEXT STEPS form are in the office BY the deadline date or preferably EARLY
  • The GBHEM Scholarship office will reserve the right to stop accepting scholarship applications at any point it is evident the number of applications received has surpassed the funding available.

WHAT TO DO DIFFERENTLY FOR A 2010 GBHEM SCHOLARSHIP

1.     Apply in January 2010 for a GBHEM Fall 2010 Scholarship at www.gbhem.org/scholarshipapplication. If school, address or other information changes after submission of the application, email the office with the updates.

2.     Gather all required NEXT STEPS items (transcript - grades through December 2009 ONLY; letters of reference; essay, etc.) in ONE packet and mail to GBHEM within ONE MONTH of submitting the online portion of the application.

3.     Review the information at www.gbhem.org/scholarshipapplication before January 2010 for official notification of changes made to the GBHEM scholarship guidelines and application procedures.
